This 2007 Triumph Bonneville began as a mostly stock motorcycle that had spent two years sitting in a garage. We rebuilt it around modern suspension, wide wire wheels, cleaner electronics, and a stripped-back black finish that lets the proportions do the talking.

Starting with the stance

The bike arrived as a standard 2007 Bonneville Black. It was complete, but sitting unused for two years had done nothing to improve its ordinary factory stance. The build began with the two changes that would have the greatest effect on how the motorcycle looked and rode: a modern front-end conversion and a wider rear wheel.

Up front, we used our conversion hub laced to a 17-inch Excel rim. At the rear, offsetting the front and rear sprockets created the chain clearance needed for a wider 17-inch rim and a 180 tire. The extra width gave the Bonneville a more planted profile and changed the way the entire motorcycle carried its weight.

GSX-R1000 suspension on a Bonneville

The original forks were replaced with a GSX-R1000 front end. Installing modern sport-bike suspension on a Bonneville is not simply a matter of pressing in a different stem. Fork length, tire size, wheel diameter, offset, and steering geometry all have to work together.

We designed a complete Cognito Moto triple-tree and stem setup around the conversion. The geometry accounted for the new wheel and tire combination while giving the fork a clean, intentional fit in the Triumph frame. The result brought modern damping, rigidity, and braking to the bike without making the front end look like an afterthought.

Clearing the center of the bike

Once the chassis was taking shape, the stock airbox had to go. Removing it opened the rear triangle and created space for one of our CNC-machined intake boxes. That visual space was important, but it also exposed the amount of wiring and electrical hardware Triumph had hidden behind the factory side covers.

Rather than relocate the bulky factory harness, we removed it and rewired the motorcycle around a Motogadget m-unit. A machined aluminum tray carries the electronics under the seat, while a separate CNC-machined battery box mounts beneath the swingarm area and houses a compact Shorai battery.

These parts are mostly hidden when the motorcycle is assembled, but they are what make the open frame triangle possible. Clean custom work depends as much on the components nobody sees as it does on the tank, wheels, and paint.

A cockpit with only what matters

The cockpit followed the same approach as the rest of the motorcycle. Biltwell Tracker handlebars were mounted with our custom riser clamp, which integrates a Motogadget Motoscope mini gauge and Motosign indicator lights into one compact assembly.

An LSL headlight bucket sits in MotoDemic brackets between the GSX-R fork legs. Small pin-style LED turn signals keep the front of the motorcycle clean, allowing the black fork, headlight, bars, and controls to read as a single unit.

Finishing the rear

The GSX-R fork changed the capability of the front end, so the rear suspension needed to match it. FOX Street Performance RC1 shocks were modified specifically for this application, improving control while maintaining the upright stance we wanted.

At the back of the frame, we installed our Triumph rear hoop with an inlaid LED brake light and turn signals. A small LED beneath the seat illuminates the shock-mounted license plate without adding another visible lamp to the tail.

The seat pan was fabricated to fit the new frame and upholstered by WheelBorne. Getting the shape right was one of the most difficult parts of the build. The tank mount sits deep beneath the front of the cushion and kept forcing the seat upward, so the pan and foam had to be worked until the line stayed level without compromising comfort.

A louder, sharper Bonneville

The finished bike keeps the simple silhouette that makes a Bonneville recognizable, but almost every system supporting that silhouette has changed. The suspension is firmer and more precise, the 180 rear tire gives it a heavier visual footprint, and the upright Tracker bars make it easy to throw around.

It is not a delicate cafe racer or a show bike built only to sit still. The riding position, loud exhaust, and modern chassis bring out the aggressive side of the Bonneville without burying the character of the original motorcycle.

Like many of our builds, this Triumph also served as a development platform. The hub, triple clamps, intake, riser clamp, rear hoop, electronics tray, and battery box all came from solving real fitment problems on a complete motorcycle. That is what allows the finished parts to work together instead of looking like a collection of unrelated upgrades.
